Checklist for Planning Your
Destination Dream Wedding
What
would be a dream destination for your wedding? How about
Philadelphia, Fiji, Hawaii or Colorado?
If you want to plan a wedding at the destination of your
dreams it will take organization and preparation to make it a
reality. It takes much planning to prepare for any kind of get
away and if that get away includes hosting a wedding it becomes
even more complicated. This article will help you think about
some of the most important issues that will need to be
addressed.
Foreign Laws
First, if you are planning to get married in a foreign
country it would be wise to check into the laws of that country
in regards to wedding ceremonies. Make sure ahead of time that
it can even be done in that country. Doing some research on the
countries laws on marriage and foreign visitors will help you
decide if it is even worth planning a wedding there. Don't
bother planning a trip without first checking into the laws of
the country you plan to go to. Another very important thing to
look into would be whether or not the marriage would be legal
in your native country once you have returned home. It would be
a disaster if you found out, say a year down the road that your
marriage cannot be legally recognized in your country because
the governing laws on marriage are different in the country of
the ceremony.
You should also be aware of their laws regarding blood work
before the marriage ceremony. Some laws require a waiting
period after the blood work is done. The wedding shouldn't be
planned until all these details are worked out. The internet
can help you locate an official to perform the ceremony.
Contact the clerk of records and licenses in the country that
you are planning to marry in.
Give Notice
Once all that is in order, it is important to inform people,
such as your employer, of your plans, so provisions may be made
in your absence. Notifying people that have assumed you are
going to marry nearby, and were expecting an invitation should
definitely be notified as well. If you would like for them to
be there they will need to make arrangements as well.
It is a must that you inform the bride and grooms parents.
They at least deserve to be told where you will be married even
if they are not able to attend.
Who knows maybe they can arrange it!!
Passport
If you do not already have a passport, this will need to be
taken care of weeks if not months ahead of time. You must give
plenty of time for such government documents to arrive. It is
not advisable to leave it for the last minute or you may find
yourself making new plans for your trip on a later date.
Accommodations
Finding suitable hotel accommodations will need to be made
as soon as you have your passport and understand the laws. If
you plan on having the honeymoon elsewhere in different country
than your wedding, arrangements will have to be made for that
as well.
Ministers
Once all these major details are sewn up, finding a minister
to do the ceremony will be the next logical step. Many places
abroad have ministers of all faiths to accommodate such an
event. These services welcome such weddings since it brings
economy to their country and boosts their financial
situation.
Weather
Choosing a tropical climate? It would be wise to stay on top
of the weather patterns of the region for a while prior to the
trip. You don not want to be surprised by blindly walking into
a tropical storm month or some kind of seasonal upset
associated with the region. It would be horrible if you
planned, set up and traveled all the way to your dream wedding
destination and were caught in a typhoon or hurricane.
Insurance
For obvious reasons it is always good to get travel
insurance. In the event of an accident or serious injury abroad
could have serious consequences and rack up a huge debt. So
plan safely and plan way ahead to make your dream wedding
incredible. Without good planning and forethought you could
experience quite a nightmare!!
