How Important is it to Give Wedding
Favors?
It is a common question
asked by those planning a wedding and there is no pat answer.
Of course there is no law requiring you to give wedding favors
at your wedding but it is often something expected by guests.
This is why the question is a difficult one. Even though it is
not required your guests may be offended if you don't give some
type of wedding favor. This article will discuss the question
and offer advice on giving wedding favors even on a tight
budget.
Not Mandatory But Expected
As we discussed earlier, wedding favors are in no way
mandatory but that does not mean that guests do not expect to
receive a wedding favor when they attend a wedding. There are
several of reasons for this. One of the most obvious reasons
that guests expect to receive a wedding favor is that it is
such a common custom and the majority of the weddings they have
attended in the past have included a wedding favor. Another
reason that guests expect to receive a wedding favor is that
they are an expression of thanks to the guests for being a part
of their special day. Even though the couple will likely still
send out thank you cards to all of the guests after the wedding
a small wedding favor is a nice way to express your
gratitude.
Why would a couple consider not giving wedding favors at their
wedding? In most cases the simple answer is that the couple is
on a very tight budget. Giving wedding favors to each guest may
go over their budget. This is a very real concern. It is
important to remember that although wedding favors may be
fairly inexpensive, the unit price has to be multiplied by the
number of guests that come to the wedding. For example you may
select a favor which costs only $2 per favor but you may be
expecting 400 guests at your wedding. This means the costs of
the favors alone will be $800 which may not even include the
costs associated with shipping or wrapping the wedding favors.
It is understandable that a couple needs to stay within a
budget but wedding favors should be an important consideration
when making the overall spending plans. Wedding favors should
be given priority over other things so that your guests will
feel appreciated.
Wedding Favors Don't Have to Break the
Budget
When the couple is concerned about budget it is important to
remember that wedding favors do not need to be expensive or
extravagant. A single flower given to each guest can be very
special as well as affordable. If you are already planning to
have floral centerpieces you can discuss your options with your
florist beforehand. You will likely be able to negotiate a
reasonable price for this favor because you are already
purchasing your centerpieces from the florist. Selecting one
flower used in the centerpiece and having your florist supply
enough of these to give as favors are a really nice way to tie
the centerpieces and the favors together. Another version of
this idea is to give each guest an artificial flower that
matches the flowers in the centerpieces or bridal bouquet.
These favors can be elegant as well as inexpensive ways to
remind your guests that you appreciate them sharing this day
with you.
Finally, be sure to discuss affordable options with companies
that are in the business of distributing wedding supplies and
craft stores. Many times they will have closeout items
available as well as discounted items. Many times a product has
been discontinued and the distributor will offer his supply at
a reduced rate. If he has enough for your wedding you can
receive an affordable wedding favor. If you are purchasing a
very large number of wedding favors some companies may offer a
discount for that too.
