Selecting a Bridal Veil or Headpiece

Consider the type of wedding you are having and what your dress is like when you are trying to decide whether to wear a veil or headpiece. Also, it is important to consider what your hairstyle will be like. Is your hair long and if so will you wear it up or down? These are all questions to ask your self when choosing a headpiece or veil. Some styles are a combination of both for those who just can't decide. The main consideration is that it matches your dress and looks good on you. A beautiful veil or headpiece can be a horrible choice if it doesn't match your dress or hairstyle.

Bridal Veils Come in a Variety of Styles

Veils come in a wide range of styles, lengths and fabrics to choose from. For example the "pouf" style would be a good choice for a second wedding or a more informal celebration. Sometimes bridesmaids will wear this head piece as well. A short, simple shoulder length veil allows the back of the gown to be seen whereas an elbow length veil is more common in formal daytime weddings or with a shorter informal wedding dress. The most common style is the "fingertip" length worn with a long gown and hangs just below the waist. Traditional, formal weddings often will choose the chapel style that is floor length. For an exceptionally formal celebration a cathedral style veil that hangs to the floor and trail behind the bride is appropriate.

There is a Wide Selection of Fabrics to Choose from too

The fabrics you can choose from will depend on where you go to get your veil. There is the traditional lace, that is real lace and very beautiful. Often you can choose between white and cream. There is shear fabric that is transparent and very popular today. It comes in shimmer, pink, blue, white, cream, and for those non-traditional colors red, black and more. Another option is the vintage old style crochet veils. These are very simple yet elegant. These are most often white and crème colored. Silk and satin are used as well, sometimes alone and other times with shear fabrics. Silks and satins come is a variety of different colors so the possibilities are endless.

Headpieces: How to Decide on the Right One

If you choose a headpiece you will have many, many choices. There is the crown style that sits on top of the head like a ring. It can be made with fresh flowers, baby’s breath and any material such as satin or silk. These accessories will enhance your dress and hairstyle in stunning ways. For elegance, the tiara is a popular choice. They are made of silver or gold metal and sparkle and shine with shimmery crystals and rhinestones. An up style hairdo will work best with a tiara. Another headpiece that looks great with pulled up hairstyles is the crescent band. It sits on the back to part of the head and can be decorated with beads, flowers, fabric or a combination of many different things.

A dash of elegance can be created with a simple comb that sits in the hair. The prongs keep the comb in place and can help keep the stray strands of hair in place. Another popular headpiece is the V-band and circular band. This piece sits on the back part of the head and beads that sits around the forehead. Not everyone can wear this look so try different styles and choose one that is perfect for you. Elegant and stylish hats and Juliet caps are old fashions that some people still choose today. The hat should fit well and not be too big or small. A Juliet cap is a wire band decorated with beads, flowers or lace that frames the face. Whatever style you choose make sure it fits your dress, face and hairstyle.
